National Incident Management System (NIMS)

The NIMS is a comprehensive and scalable system that enables all governments within the United States to be able to integrate and operate in a unified and coordinated manner in times of emergency. Our state NIMS coordinator ensures that government entities in New Mexico have programs in place and the resources needed to effectively use the NIMS.

The New Mexico NIMS Program:

  1. Provides technical assistance to local and tribal governments; state agencies and the private and non-profit sector on the implementation of NIMS.
  2. Performs annual on-site visits with preparedness grant funded jurisdictions to aid successful NIMS implementation.
  3. Enhance cross-functionality and readiness throughout the state by ensuring stakeholders employ NIMS as a common operating standard that guides resource management, command and coordination, and communications and information management.
