Full-Service Debris Removal

Full-Service Debris Removal for Residents

The State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) is now offering a full-service debris removal service, at no cost to private property owners.

Any resident who was impacted by the South Fork fire, Salt fire, or flooding is eligible for this program. If residents receive funding from their insurance companies for debris removal, they will be required to notify the state. Insurance coverage does not disqualify a property from the program, but a portion of the insurance payment may need to be submitted to the State.

Opting Out of State Debris Removal Program

The New Mexico Department of Health has issued a public health order recognizing the hazards present in fire debris (including asbestos and heavy metals) following the South Fork and Salt fires. The Governor of New Mexico issued an executive order to ensure rapid, safe cleanup through either the publicly funded Full-Service Debris Removal Program or the Opt-Out Debris Removal Program.

Property owners are highly encouraged to take advantage of the State’s Full-Service Debris Removal Program. Those who choose not to use the State’s program are asked to fill out an Opt-Out form and utilize the cleanup standards, available for download below.
