State and county partners are offering debris removal for Chaves County residents dealing with flood damage from October. Residents can place flood debris curbside for pickup from Feb. 7 to Feb. 28.
Debris removal was available following the October 2024 flooding event and through the program, 26,574 cubic yards of debris has been picked up at no cost to residents. This will be the final pickup to ensure residents who were not able to get their flood debris to their curb during the initial removal cycle can have it picked up.
Residents do not need to call to schedule the debris removal but are asked to sort their debris into categories and place at their curb:
- Electronics (such as televisions, computers, phones).
- Large appliances (such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves or dishwashers. Be sure to seal or secure the doors so they are not accessible).
- Vegetative debris (such as tree branches, leaves or plants).
- Construction debris (such as drywall, lumber, carpet or furniture).
Curbside debris must be free of overhead obstructions, maintain an 8’ clear radius surrounding the debris, and should not obstruct right of ways.
Right of way debris removal will occur in zones, separating the county into quadrants, seen below. Zones one and two will be completed first, followed by zones three and four. Zone four includes Dexter and Midway.
